• What is the Walk-A-Thon?

Our students will collect donations from friends and family. On Friday, May 31st they will walk, run, skip, etc. as they do laps around the school track. Each student will carry a punch card to keep track of the number of laps completed. Students earn prizes based on amount of money raised and/or number of laps completed. Individual donors are asked to give fixed amount donations (not per lap) since money is collected at time of donation. This is a fun and festive event — family members are welcome to join in walking or cheering on the students!

  • When and where is the Walk-A-Thon?

The event will take place on the afternoon of Friday, May 31st during school hours. Students in grades K-1 will walk with their classmates for 25 minutes around our approximately ¼ mile path bordering the playfield on campus. Students in grades 2-3 and 4-5 will each walk for 45 minutes. The event will be secure and supervised by teachers, staff and parent volunteers. Water and first aid will be available.

  • Why do we have the Walk-A-Thon?

Limited public school funding cannot provide all of the programs and resources we want our children to have. Each year Kennydale PTA holds multiple fundraisers to help provide funding for materials, events, and learning opportunities our children would otherwise have to do without.

  • Who participates in the Walk-A-Thon?

EVERYONE! Each student will receive a Kennydale Walk-A-Thon t-shirt.

  • How can parents participate?

Join the festivities by walking with or cheering on your child! There are also many volunteer opportunities available. The students will be walking in three waves (K-1, 2-3, and 4-5) so you can volunteer for one wave and still participate with your child during his/her walk. Parents with little ones can help too — strollers are welcome!

  • What is our financial goal?

Our hope is that every student can raise at least $25 in donations for this event. Our overall goal for the Walk-A-Thon is to raise $15,000 in order to fund programs for the 2019 - 2020 school year.

  • How is the money spent?

Money earned from the Walk-A-Thon will be used to provide funding for PTA programs which include:

    • Mini grants for our teachers to enhance classroom learning resources
    • PTA sponsored events (i.e., Science Week and Carnival)
    • Social studies curriculum, art curriculum, and creative enrichment programs
    • Educational assemblies and field trips

  • How much money should my child raise?

Our goal is for 100% student participation; however, it is up to you and your family how much money is raised. All donations are appreciated and put to good use. All students bringing in at least $25 will earn an Ice Cream recess. The student raising the most money earns an Adventure Walk” with Mr. Stallman! Other cool prizes will be awarded via a drawing in which students will be entered based on their level of money collected. The great thing about this fundraiser is that ALL funds go to our school, so encourage your child to collect as much as he/she can.

  • How are donations collected?

Starting TODAY, students will have the opportunity to ask friends and family for donations for their walk. They should collect the donation at that time. Checks should be made out to KENNYDALE PTA. Just like all school fundraisers, safety is our first priority. Door-to-door soliciting is not encouraged. Parents, please make sure your child understands his/her geographic boundaries or other house rules regarding asking for donations.

  • Can we use our company matching with this fundraiser?

YES! Many companies offer matching funds to employees for non-profit donations. If your company supports a matching program, please list your employer on the donation form. We can also assist in finding out if this program is available at your workplace. This is a great way for you to double your donation without it costing you anything – it’s a HUGE opportunity for our school!

  • What should my child wear on Walk-A-Thon day?

PLEASE send your child in appropriate footwear! The kids will be walking for either 25 or 45 minutes straight and need comfortable walking shoes or sneakers. They will be given a t-shirt that afternoon that they can wear. If it is a sunny day, you might consider applying sunscreen in the morning before late start (please note that teachers & staff cannot do this for your child).

  • What happens if it rains on the day of the Walk-A-Thon?

We sure hope it won’t! However, we know we have to be prepared for anything. If rain is in the forecast, please send along a raincoat and hat, and perhaps a pair of dry socks in your child’s backpack for afterwards.

  • Will there be water or first aid?

Bottled water will be distributed to students and a first aid station will be set up for any band-aids or other necessary first-aid equipment.
